Menswear: AW15 Outerwear Trends

I don’t usually write pieces on menswear as I have had little knowledge or experience in searching for menswear trends and styles, however after working with a menswear team recently I have gained some tips on what will be big trends this Autumn/Winter. In terms of outerwear, jackets and coats are something to invest money in and these pieces I have found (although a little pricey!) I’m sure will be on the highstreets in different varieties.

Sandro

This store is amazing for men’s outerwear as it provides cool and chic styles with twists on old favorites. Here are a few of the key pieces from Sandro Paris.

Weapon Jacket £845 – Removable fur and shearling collars are big this season and leather biker jackets are a must-have.

Mods Parka £685 – Parka coats are huge this season and are always popular for those chilly months! I love how Sandro have paired such a casual styled coats with a sharp skinny suit to create a cool mod look.

Apollo Coat £475 – Single breasted straight coat is great for a formal look and the camel colour is very popular on the catwalks.

All Saints

Great for a little more affordable style, this store provides great vintage feel pieces with washed out denim creating the real rocknroll style All Saints exhibits.

Men's Eucild Denim Jacket (Grey) - product_image_alt_text_2

Eucild Denim Jacket £108 – This raw aesthetic denim jacket has slim line panelling for something a little more fitted and although denim jackets are more toward the summer season, this grey washed out dye is great for the transition into Autumn.

Men's Bedford Shearling Jacket (Sand) - product_image_alt_text_2

Bedford Shearling jacket £798 – This luxury jacket is made from British merino sheepskin (hence the price!), but is well worth the price tag for a fab aviator style jacket which has been a big trend by designers, plus that sheepskin will keep you cosy on those frosty mornings.

Men's Halber Suede Jacket (Anthracite) -

Halber Suede Jacket £328 – Suede was huge in Spring/Summer and seems to be moving into Autumn Winter as well! This simple trucker jacket is a great staple piece to layer over dark patterned shirts and tops with some skinny jeans and boots.

The Kooples

The Kooples is perfect at creating effortlessly cool styles with a mix of crisp shirt tailoring and monochrome shades of outerwear.

Houndstooth detail Biker jacket £645 – A biker jacket reinvented with Houndstooth detail which creates an individual and quirky take on a classic.

Lightdown Jacket with Leather Sleeves £545 – Leather details is something which many designers are incorporating into their coats and jackets for a more chic and young look. This works perfectly on this quilted jacket as it makes the practical winter puffer jacket trendy.

Straight Coat in Grey £475 – This straight coat, once again has made use of leather detail in the stand up collar and is a great alternative to the smarter outerwear you may need for work. It is versatile and can be worn formally or informally depending on occasion, simply pair with a suit or skinnies and a button down check shirt for a casual cool look.

Fashion Folk

This season is all about everything folk fashion, from swinging 60’s bell sleeves to flowing flower power dresses, it is all about vintage inspired style. Burberry Prorsum presented warm, autumn tones on long folk dresses and ponchos while Chloe showed off the 70’s bell sleeve on tailored jackets and coats, Lanvin however updated the 70’s trend with sequins and fur but maintained the classic hippy look with loose fitting styles. But of course many of us can’t afford the designer brands that lead these trends in the world of fashion and so I have found some cheaper alternatives off the high street and online!

Missguided £25 Bell sleeve woven croptop in white

This is a great look for any end of summer festival or holidays and it is simple to incorporate into an outfit. Either take inspiration from Missguided with a fringed suede skirt and shades or maybe go proper hippy chick with flared patterned trousers and some platform heels.

ASOS £21.00 (ON SALE) textured peg trousers in mixed folk print

these peg trousers are a great way to add a bit of folk style into the office as you could pair these print comfy slouch pants with an oversized blazer and T-shirt for a relaxed work look or perfect for strolling along the beach in the evening with a simple crop and some gold accessories and sandals.

Topshop £59.00 Chiffon maxi dress by Oh My Love

This is an absolutely gorgeous dress with floral patterning and dramatic chiffon material which will help you make an entrance to any summer party. With the flowing material the dress would look amazing with lace up the leg sandals or for something a bit more dressy, chunky heels. But beware not to loose length off the dress with heels as it could turn it into an ankle swinging cut…not a good look!

River Island £68.00 Brown Faux Fur Gilet

This trend is a must for AW15 style as fur coats, gilets and accessories have been seen all over the catwalks this year and so it may be time to invest in a staple faux fur piece for your wardrobe. This gilet reminds me of a coat seen on the AW15 Valentino runway and would look amazing with a similar outfit seen on the catwalk. Pair the jacket with flared black trousers and a high neck cream tucked in blouse and boots for an ultra cool city style with a folk twist.

Autumn/Winter Couture Dresses 2015

Dolce and Gabbana Couture

Autumn/Winter couture has been flawless this season with designers providing the runways with a fantastic array of styles and shades all with a real luxurious feel. Dolce and Gabbana’s Alta Moda showcase of dresses gave a fabulous display of tropical prints with full and bright skirts and jeweled bodices, and with extravagant head pieces of jewels and bouquets of flowers a theatrical look was created at the event. Some of my favourite dresses from AW15 couture are shown below and these examples show the real diversity in the styles each designer has created. The first dress (far left) comes from designer Alberta Ferretti who creates a soft and feminine look through the earthy green tones and pretty floral prints, however with added sex appeal in the form of a plunging neckline and a cross over back. The second dress from Ralph and Russo however gives a more effortless look of glamour and class with pinstriped sheer detail and a heavy caped overlay. Although the dress seems simple, this simplicity was certainly a winner for me and its snowy ice queen feel stunned on the runway. Valentino (always one of my favourite couture designers) created modern gothic looks with high necks, black netting and lace inserts. The dress below (centre) was intricate and cool with its sheer material and black polka dots, gold accessories and raised shoulders to create a noir inspired dress. The other end of the spectrum, and a dress which stood out for its blue candy floss style feathering, was the Versace couture gown. I love how the dress was like a new take on cinderellas ball gown, with a structured plunging bodice, cascading split skirt with blue feathered detail to create a fun and girly dress but which was still very chic. Finally no one can beat Elie Saab for dresses and one day I hope I can afford to buy one of his fabulous creations! Possible my favourite look so far is in the form of this glitzy gold long sleeved dress with glitter embellishment. The dress fits in all the right places with a cinched in belted waist and flared shoulders, this is a dress fit for a goddess. Couture aw15

Celeb Style: Poppy Delevingne

ImageProxyPoppy Delevingne, sister of top model and one of the coolest celebs about; Cara Delevingne is certainly not shadowed by her sisters style, as she continues to showcase her fun and chic wardrobe. Poppy who has already established herself in the modelling world always looks on point at star studded events, wearing fabulous statement outfits. At the Vanity Fair Oscars party Poppy stunned in an Emilio Pucci flamenco style dress, with added choker and smoky shades of lippy and eye shadow for a dramatic look, while at the Save the Children Gala she radiated natural beauty in a plunging silk slip dress with jeweled detail, highlighting her ability to mix up her fashion. The 29 year old model is also the Queen of laidback looks and can be commonly found with cool boho styles with plaited hair and loose airy dresses, while also having fun with her style seen when she wore the piano keyboard Emilia Wickstead shirt dress with cool messy hair. Poppy Delevingne is one of the best for fashion inspiration, particularly when looking for something easy and fun, she can pull off bright blue trousers suits and suede girly dresses, a definite favorite celeb of mine and a model who seems to be getting cooler and cooler with age.

Boss in Blue

boss spring 2016

Boss’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection boasted beautiful hues of blue in the form of a two tone cocoon coat, blue animal print tailored suits and collared dresses. This pastel shade is a classic and my favorite Spring/Summer shade, particularly styled in this way with black shoes and accessories to create a chic and smart look. Here I have found a few powder blue pieces to throw into your wardrobe to nail this future trend before the rest!

Platforms are a hit at the moment, particularly with the 70’s trends which are key for Summer 2015 and can be found in all the highstreet shops and department stores. I love these Zara Leather Platform Heels £49.99 as they have a suede finish (another on point trend) and the chunky heel makes them so much easier to strut in. Wear them with some black highwaisted shorts and a flowy tucked in blouse for a pretty summer look.

High neck jumpers were commonly found in the collection and would be a fab way of making use of this shade. This comfy and relaxed French Connection Spring Mozart high neck Jumper for £69, will create a relaxed look paired with some skinny ankle grazing black jeans and some black and white patent flats (like Boss styling) and a cute matching mini tote bag.

Cocoon coats are going to be big this fall with designers such as Max Mara using them in shows over 1950’s style pencil skirts and knit jumpers. This coat is a huge bargain and perfect to grab now while it’s on sale ready for the autumn and perfect for when it gets a little chilly on summer nights. This Missguided Lena Oversized Cocoon Coat Powder Blue for £20 would look fab for casual looks of jeans and jumpers or to be worn to drinks in the city over a mini dress.

This is a very simple piece, but from the looks of it mini skirts are very much a stylish piece at the moment and would be worth grabbing to wear on nights out or casually with an oversized jumper and some Nike trainers. This Pretty Little Thing Emilia Powder Blue Crepe Mini Skirt is only £6 and a basic staple piece for your wardrobe this summer.

Celeb Style: Sienna Miller

sienna miller style
Sienna Miller has really stepped up her game this year with her cool and classic style that always creates new trends everyone wants to wear. She brought back the Bridget Jones pants at the American Sniper Premiere, opting for a Balenciaga dress which revealed the big undies under a beautiful off the shoulder winter white gown. She pulled off the knit fabric style effortlessly wearing simple and quirky pieces such as this fab striped rib dress by Celine with some chunky black strap heels by Pierre Hardy. Finally Sienna shows some diversity in her fashion by looking rock n roll in January, wearing a thigh high split dress with gold glamour polka dot patterning. With her retro Bardot looks, Sienna always pulls off those cool chic beauty styles such as red hot lips, full eyelashes and a little liquid eyeliner, but this years she mixed it up in Cannes with a burgundy lippy for a gothic look to match her black chiffon dress. To finish off the Sienna look, add some summery bronzer and always opt for natural earthy eyeshadows such as shimmering brown tones and creams.

Summer Event Style

prom 15

Summer balls and proms can be stressful to dress for, as occasion wear is sometimes a little tricky to get just right. You don’t want to go over the top with a full on ball gown fit for Cinderella, and you don’t want to look like your simply off to Tiger Tiger for a night out! Here I have found 5 different styles of summer ball dresses, inspired from runways of the past and fit for a range of girls fashion preferences. From retro dresses to glamorous jumpsuits, you don’t have to go for something boring and safe, instead choose something that you will feel and look amazing in, because it is not every day that you get the chance to dress up swanky, so have fun and take a look at these dresses for a little inspiration.

The Glamour Girl

Why not try something a little different this year and opt for an on trend and comfortable jumpsuit! This ‘Break hearts’ jumpsuit from Cameo at Topshop may be a little pricey at £135, but why not just treat yourself. This open back straight leg onesie will look amazing and will most definitely help you stand out from the crowd. To add a little colour, maybe opt for bright shoes and a clutch or wear simple accessories and some bright red lippy.

 The Girly GirlSoft-Spray-A-Line-Dress

If you’re a girl who loves every thing pink, bright and fun, maybe try something that will look both pretty but a little more subtly cool. This French Connection dress, which is £150 (great place to buy understated but fashionable evening dresses) is lovely and cute, with its A-line cut and soft pink and pastel spray paint effect you will feel pretty in pink but still mature and chic.

The Floral Girl

I absolutely love bardot cut tops and dresses because they are so flattering and I have even chosen a bardot style dress for myself this year. This off the shoulder ASOS midi bodcon dress is fab and is great if your wanting a sexy and summery look. The gorgeous shades of the dress is easy to colour co-ordinate with accessories as you could go for cream, pink or even a lilac shade of shoes and purse. At only £38 this outfit is a steal and would turn some heads at your summer event this year.

 The Retro Girl 18D35QWHT_2_large

You can never go wrong with classic styles like this dress because they always look so cool and on trend and the simplicity of them is what creates such a strong look. This beautiful White dobby lace midi dress by Miss Selfridge is great for any retro enthusiasts as its high paneled neck and sheer overlay looks clean cut and very 1950’s. I love the detail of the underlay and think it is an absolute bargain at only £49, grab it now with you’re student discounts!

The Boho Girl

image1xxl (3)

If you aren’t into the whole girly dress up style then maybe opt for something a little more earthy and downplayed with this absolutely gorgeous maxi dress from ASOS. This boho bargain is £90 and includes fabulous lace inserts and floral embroidery to create a really pretty and natural look. This would look great with some wedges or even flats if you would rather a little more comfort, and to be festival ready as well (because who wants to buy a dress and only wear it once!) include a simple head chain and some loose curls to the style.
