Fashion Folk

This season is all about everything folk fashion, from swinging 60’s bell sleeves to flowing flower power dresses, it is all about vintage inspired style. Burberry Prorsum presented warm, autumn tones on long folk dresses and ponchos while Chloe showed off the 70’s bell sleeve on tailored jackets and coats, Lanvin however updated the 70’s trend with sequins and fur but maintained the classic hippy look with loose fitting styles. But of course many of us can’t afford the designer brands that lead these trends in the world of fashion and so I have found some cheaper alternatives off the high street and online!

Missguided £25 Bell sleeve woven croptop in white

This is a great look for any end of summer festival or holidays and it is simple to incorporate into an outfit. Either take inspiration from Missguided with a fringed suede skirt and shades or maybe go proper hippy chick with flared patterned trousers and some platform heels.

Topshop £59.00 Chiffon maxi dress by Oh My Love

This is an absolutely gorgeous dress with floral patterning and dramatic chiffon material which will help you make an entrance to any summer party. With the flowing material the dress would look amazing with lace up the leg sandals or for something a bit more dressy, chunky heels. But beware not to loose length off the dress with heels as it could turn it into an ankle swinging cut…not a good look!

River Island £68.00 Brown Faux Fur Gilet

This trend is a must for AW15 style as fur coats, gilets and accessories have been seen all over the catwalks this year and so it may be time to invest in a staple faux fur piece for your wardrobe. This gilet reminds me of a coat seen on the AW15 Valentino runway and would look amazing with a similar outfit seen on the catwalk. Pair the jacket with flared black trousers and a high neck cream tucked in blouse and boots for an ultra cool city style with a folk twist.

Summer Event Style

prom 15

Summer balls and proms can be stressful to dress for, as occasion wear is sometimes a little tricky to get just right. You don’t want to go over the top with a full on ball gown fit for Cinderella, and you don’t want to look like your simply off to Tiger Tiger for a night out! Here I have found 5 different styles of summer ball dresses, inspired from runways of the past and fit for a range of girls fashion preferences. From retro dresses to glamorous jumpsuits, you don’t have to go for something boring and safe, instead choose something that you will feel and look amazing in, because it is not every day that you get the chance to dress up swanky, so have fun and take a look at these dresses for a little inspiration.

The Glamour Girl

Why not try something a little different this year and opt for an on trend and comfortable jumpsuit! This ‘Break hearts’ jumpsuit from Cameo at Topshop may be a little pricey at £135, but why not just treat yourself. This open back straight leg onesie will look amazing and will most definitely help you stand out from the crowd. To add a little colour, maybe opt for bright shoes and a clutch or wear simple accessories and some bright red lippy.

 The Girly GirlSoft-Spray-A-Line-Dress

If you’re a girl who loves every thing pink, bright and fun, maybe try something that will look both pretty but a little more subtly cool. This French Connection dress, which is £150 (great place to buy understated but fashionable evening dresses) is lovely and cute, with its A-line cut and soft pink and pastel spray paint effect you will feel pretty in pink but still mature and chic.

The Floral Girl

I absolutely love bardot cut tops and dresses because they are so flattering and I have even chosen a bardot style dress for myself this year. This off the shoulder ASOS midi bodcon dress is fab and is great if your wanting a sexy and summery look. The gorgeous shades of the dress is easy to colour co-ordinate with accessories as you could go for cream, pink or even a lilac shade of shoes and purse. At only £38 this outfit is a steal and would turn some heads at your summer event this year.

 The Retro Girl 18D35QWHT_2_large

You can never go wrong with classic styles like this dress because they always look so cool and on trend and the simplicity of them is what creates such a strong look. This beautiful White dobby lace midi dress by Miss Selfridge is great for any retro enthusiasts as its high paneled neck and sheer overlay looks clean cut and very 1950’s. I love the detail of the underlay and think it is an absolute bargain at only £49, grab it now with you’re student discounts!

The Boho Girl

If you aren’t into the whole girly dress up style then maybe opt for something a little more earthy and downplayed with this absolutely gorgeous maxi dress from ASOS. This boho bargain is £90 and includes fabulous lace inserts and floral embroidery to create a really pretty and natural look. This would look great with some wedges or even flats if you would rather a little more comfort, and to be festival ready as well (because who wants to buy a dress and only wear it once!) include a simple head chain and some loose curls to the style.

Cannes Film Festival 2015

The Cannes Film Festival always provides the fashion scene with classic glamour on the red carpet and this year proved no different. With quirky takes on classic red carpet looks, gorgeous summery shades and fab metallic mini dresses this was no exception to the usual glitzy fashion found at the international film fest. Here are some of my favorite looks from the A-listers.

doutzen-kroes-vogue-14may15-getty_b_426x639Doutzen Kroes wowed in a split side white Atelier Versace gown with cut out detail. This cheeky but classic dress looked amazing and added a little more sex appeal to the red carpet look.

fan-bingbing-vogue-14may15-getty_b_426x639 Although not something I would choose myself, nobody can deny that this Ralph and Russo couture gown worn by Fan Bingbing was a beautifully intricate and dramatic look, particularly the trail created on the sleeves. This was a winner on the red carpet and looked amazing with her sleek tied back hair and smoky eye makeup.

karlie-kloss-vogue-14may15-getty_b_426x639 Karlie Kloss never gets it wrong and chose this quirky and cool Atelier Versace one leg jumpsuit which she made look so classic despite it being quite a different and out of the ordinary. The glittery embellishment on the jumpsuit added to the glamour and created one of my favorite looks from Cannes.

liya-kebede-vogue-14may15-getty-b_426x639 I absolutely love this dress and thought Liva Kebede pulled this off amazingly. The metallic Louis Vuitton dress was fun and sassy with its mini skirt shape and billowing sleeves, it was cool, current and something a bit more unique compared to the usual floor length dresses.

noemie-lenoir-vogue-14may15-getty_b_426x639Yellow is just such a fresh and cool colour on the red carpet and really complimented the pregnant Noémie Lenoir. It was a bit daring for a mum to be with its drop back and side cut and slightly plunging neckline but she made this Chloe dress look chic and pretty.

Summer Suede

summer suede

Suede is a definite hit this summer and a fab trend which adds a new fabric and texture to an outfit. Suede was seen all over the SS15 runways with block colours and patchworks being found on dresses, skirts and jackets and it is a great trend to mix with fringing to create a real boho look (As seen on Olivia Palermo, above). I love the use of bright suede as its a little more quirky and fab as a staple piece to an outfit which will draw some attention and really show off your style. Below I have found some bargain suede pieces that are affordable and funky to wear this summer and into the winter with a pair of tights!

image3xxl ASOS Mini Skirt in Suede £50.00 – A little pricey but this soft touch suede will offer comfort and a fun orangey colour to your outfit. This mini skirt would look brill with a pair of converses and a simple logo tee, nothing too flashy just simple and cool.

image1xxl (2) ASOS Skater Dress in Colour Block £75.00 – This is a gorgeous dress simply because of its fun and girly fit and the fab pink shades to highlight your summer tan! This dress is perfect for casual drinks on holiday and a fab way to wear the trend.

d3111137_emily_30.01.15_aj_1677 Missguided Suede Tassel Long Sleeve Plunge Bodycon Dress £35.00 – This absolute bargain comes from Missguided and uses the fringing and suede trend together to create a dress for a nightout which will beat all your friends looks! A sleek and sexy fit of the bodycon dress, paired with the tassel sleeves is a great look and I absolutely love the colour (As does Elle magazine!) and it really screams Coachella chic.

27A11HBLE_2_large  Topshop Suedette Pleated Midi Skirt £48.00 – 70’s style is a must this season and this suedette skirt in a baby blue looks amazing with this gypsy style white off the shoulder top. This is a real pretty look and would be brilliant on holiday for a look you can dress up or down, simply throw on a loose fitting top and sandals for a stroll along the beach or a pair of 70’s platforms and a bardot crop top for a night on the town.

Celeb Style – Kate Bosworth

kate bosworth styleKate Bosworth has great style and chooses cool and current clothing that doesn’t simply blend into the background, instead she wear edgy, fun and feminine styles and mixes this up depending on the event. Quirky footwear, relaxed and wavy hairstyles and some pink lippy is key to recreating her fashionable flair. Here are 4 looks taken from red carpets, festivals and casual street style, giving a different outfit for a range of occasions I will recreate these Kate Bosworth classics at affordable prices!

Coachella: The celebs vs The people

coachella

Coachella is always an ace place to take fashion inspiration from, particularly for any upcoming festivals and general summer style and usually we look to the celebs for these key trends, however it seems that they are very much in competition with the normal festival goers. Fab looks came from the likes of Jourdan Dunne who went for a pair of gorgeous lace up flat sandals with a crochet playsuit with her amazing purple coloured hair, while Gigi Hadid showed the importance of accessory coordination by matching her blue necklace and tie up belt together over a casual dress. One of my favorite celeb looks came from Kate Bosworth, who wore a beautifully embroidered jacket over a crisp white dress and brown suede boots, however it was her micro mini handbag which caught my eye as it is an new trend which I’m sure will sweep the high street soon! But although the celebs showed beautiful style, the people were cool and creative in their looks. From floral two pieces to cool open shirts with a bikini top underneath, the people oozed festival chic trends with laid back style. One of my favorite looks were two girls who were sporting the L.A. company For Love of Lemons lingerie and two piece sets, as they wore nude leotards with white floral detail under a funky bomber jacket and white shorts, another were from a couple who were giving a real old school rock feel with Jimi Hendrix-esque Afro hairstyle with a cool coral shirt and loose waistcoat from the boy and a black fringed kimono over a simple bandeau and skirt for the girl. For me it was a definite win for the people with excellent use of accessories, cool hair and effortlessly cool style, the celebs could take some key pointers from the public.

Valentino – Autumn/Winter ’15

valentino 2A little late writing this up but better late than never! The Valentino show. A beautiful array of graceful and creative runway pieces with dresses in scarlet red, monochrome patterning and intricate embellishment. As usual the use of fabrics was flawless with feminine and sultry dresses in black velvet, gothic leather with fringing and lace showing a little skin under sheer materials with frills. Sheer was definitely popular on this runway, with polka dot mesh making an appearance and low plunging necklines seen on fluid dresses. I love how Valentino dresses always have a fairy tale vibe to them, with their extravagance of detail such as the beautiful constellation dress with moon, stars and planet features which looked amazing! A favorite trend on the runway, and one which I have noticed and other shows this fashion season, is the use of thick knits layered over long skirts with boots, which is a great look for Autumn/Winter and easy to create from the high street brands! Great use of warm autumn shades was seen with greens, burgundies and oranges on short dresses and coats and rich golds were given a watercolor blend effect on long coats and skirts. And of course no one can forget the appearance of THE Zoolander and Hansel showing off the blue steel look! A fantastic surprise to find and a hilarious way to announce their second film, their outfits were pretty cool to!
