Menswear: AW15 Outerwear Trends

I don’t usually write pieces on menswear as I have had little knowledge or experience in searching for menswear trends and styles, however after working with a menswear team recently I have gained some tips on what will be big trends this Autumn/Winter. In terms of outerwear, jackets and coats are something to invest money in and these pieces I have found (although a little pricey!) I’m sure will be on the highstreets in different varieties.

Sandro

This store is amazing for men’s outerwear as it provides cool and chic styles with twists on old favorites. Here are a few of the key pieces from Sandro Paris.

Weapon Jacket £845 – Removable fur and shearling collars are big this season and leather biker jackets are a must-have.

Mods Parka £685 – Parka coats are huge this season and are always popular for those chilly months! I love how Sandro have paired such a casual styled coats with a sharp skinny suit to create a cool mod look.

Apollo Coat £475 – Single breasted straight coat is great for a formal look and the camel colour is very popular on the catwalks.

All Saints

Great for a little more affordable style, this store provides great vintage feel pieces with washed out denim creating the real rocknroll style All Saints exhibits.

Men's Eucild Denim Jacket (Grey) - product_image_alt_text_2

Eucild Denim Jacket £108 – This raw aesthetic denim jacket has slim line panelling for something a little more fitted and although denim jackets are more toward the summer season, this grey washed out dye is great for the transition into Autumn.

Men's Bedford Shearling Jacket (Sand) - product_image_alt_text_2

Bedford Shearling jacket £798 – This luxury jacket is made from British merino sheepskin (hence the price!), but is well worth the price tag for a fab aviator style jacket which has been a big trend by designers, plus that sheepskin will keep you cosy on those frosty mornings.

Men's Halber Suede Jacket (Anthracite) -

Halber Suede Jacket £328 – Suede was huge in Spring/Summer and seems to be moving into Autumn Winter as well! This simple trucker jacket is a great staple piece to layer over dark patterned shirts and tops with some skinny jeans and boots.

The Kooples

The Kooples is perfect at creating effortlessly cool styles with a mix of crisp shirt tailoring and monochrome shades of outerwear.

Houndstooth detail Biker jacket £645 – A biker jacket reinvented with Houndstooth detail which creates an individual and quirky take on a classic.

Lightdown Jacket with Leather Sleeves £545 – Leather details is something which many designers are incorporating into their coats and jackets for a more chic and young look. This works perfectly on this quilted jacket as it makes the practical winter puffer jacket trendy.

Straight Coat in Grey £475 – This straight coat, once again has made use of leather detail in the stand up collar and is a great alternative to the smarter outerwear you may need for work. It is versatile and can be worn formally or informally depending on occasion, simply pair with a suit or skinnies and a button down check shirt for a casual cool look.

Fashion Folk

This season is all about everything folk fashion, from swinging 60’s bell sleeves to flowing flower power dresses, it is all about vintage inspired style. Burberry Prorsum presented warm, autumn tones on long folk dresses and ponchos while Chloe showed off the 70’s bell sleeve on tailored jackets and coats, Lanvin however updated the 70’s trend with sequins and fur but maintained the classic hippy look with loose fitting styles. But of course many of us can’t afford the designer brands that lead these trends in the world of fashion and so I have found some cheaper alternatives off the high street and online!

Missguided £25 Bell sleeve woven croptop in white

This is a great look for any end of summer festival or holidays and it is simple to incorporate into an outfit. Either take inspiration from Missguided with a fringed suede skirt and shades or maybe go proper hippy chick with flared patterned trousers and some platform heels.

Topshop £59.00 Chiffon maxi dress by Oh My Love

This is an absolutely gorgeous dress with floral patterning and dramatic chiffon material which will help you make an entrance to any summer party. With the flowing material the dress would look amazing with lace up the leg sandals or for something a bit more dressy, chunky heels. But beware not to loose length off the dress with heels as it could turn it into an ankle swinging cut…not a good look!

River Island £68.00 Brown Faux Fur Gilet

This trend is a must for AW15 style as fur coats, gilets and accessories have been seen all over the catwalks this year and so it may be time to invest in a staple faux fur piece for your wardrobe. This gilet reminds me of a coat seen on the AW15 Valentino runway and would look amazing with a similar outfit seen on the catwalk. Pair the jacket with flared black trousers and a high neck cream tucked in blouse and boots for an ultra cool city style with a folk twist.

Summer Suede

summer suede

Suede is a definite hit this summer and a fab trend which adds a new fabric and texture to an outfit. Suede was seen all over the SS15 runways with block colours and patchworks being found on dresses, skirts and jackets and it is a great trend to mix with fringing to create a real boho look (As seen on Olivia Palermo, above). I love the use of bright suede as its a little more quirky and fab as a staple piece to an outfit which will draw some attention and really show off your style. Below I have found some bargain suede pieces that are affordable and funky to wear this summer and into the winter with a pair of tights!

image3xxl ASOS Mini Skirt in Suede £50.00 – A little pricey but this soft touch suede will offer comfort and a fun orangey colour to your outfit. This mini skirt would look brill with a pair of converses and a simple logo tee, nothing too flashy just simple and cool.

image1xxl (2) ASOS Skater Dress in Colour Block £75.00 – This is a gorgeous dress simply because of its fun and girly fit and the fab pink shades to highlight your summer tan! This dress is perfect for casual drinks on holiday and a fab way to wear the trend.

d3111137_emily_30.01.15_aj_1677 Missguided Suede Tassel Long Sleeve Plunge Bodycon Dress £35.00 – This absolute bargain comes from Missguided and uses the fringing and suede trend together to create a dress for a nightout which will beat all your friends looks! A sleek and sexy fit of the bodycon dress, paired with the tassel sleeves is a great look and I absolutely love the colour (As does Elle magazine!) and it really screams Coachella chic.

27A11HBLE_2_large  Topshop Suedette Pleated Midi Skirt £48.00 – 70’s style is a must this season and this suedette skirt in a baby blue looks amazing with this gypsy style white off the shoulder top. This is a real pretty look and would be brilliant on holiday for a look you can dress up or down, simply throw on a loose fitting top and sandals for a stroll along the beach or a pair of 70’s platforms and a bardot crop top for a night on the town.

Celeb Style – Kate Bosworth

kate bosworth styleKate Bosworth has great style and chooses cool and current clothing that doesn’t simply blend into the background, instead she wear edgy, fun and feminine styles and mixes this up depending on the event. Bag it up

bag it

Bags are not only a necessity for storing all our little bits and bobs in but a fantastic opportunity to add a bit of quirkiness to an outfit or use as a cool accessory. For me, I love bags that stand out either in their design, colour or patterning but that doesn’t mean they always have to be outrageous, instead sometimes the most simple bags can create the coolest looks. I have found some currently trending styles of bags which you can find at a good price on the high street, from fluffy clutches to fringed leather, there is something for everyone.

image4xxlGrafea Mini Backpack in Tan £145 – This very simple backpack is really cute and great as a casual but cool accessory and because of its dinky size, it would be great to take to a festival. Pair it with a denim shirt dress (a very key trend for your spring/summer wardrobe!) and the tan will compliment you perfectly!

24C06HBLE_large Topshop Faux fur Striped Clutch £32 – This clutch is awesome and just a great colour paired with the white stripe detail. This roll-over top bag is so fun and adds something a bit more eccentric and different to an outfit, plus fluffy is very in with bloggers adding furry bag charms as accessories.

Topshop Marabou Messenger Bag £30 – This is an awesome statement piece to spice up and outfit, this little messenger bag, with faux snake skin strap, is a great way to add splashes of colour to more of the softer and natural palettes which are in this season.

FROSINONE_82_RG_324

Aldo Frosinone Bag (Gold) £45 – Fringing is everywhere at the moment and if you’re still not feeling brave enough to pull off fringed tops, skirts and dresses then opt for a fringed handbag. This is a particularly fab one and I love the colour of which can be matched with a number of outfits to create a chic look and is versatile so can be dressed up or down.

Valentino – Autumn/Winter ’15

valentino 2A little late writing this up but better late than never! The Valentino show. A beautiful array of graceful and creative runway pieces with dresses in scarlet red, monochrome patterning and intricate embellishment. As usual the use of fabrics was flawless with feminine and sultry dresses in black velvet, gothic leather with fringing and lace showing a little skin under sheer materials with frills. Sheer was definitely popular on this runway, with polka dot mesh making an appearance and low plunging necklines seen on fluid dresses. I love how Valentino dresses always have a fairy tale vibe to them, with their extravagance of detail such as the beautiful constellation dress with moon, stars and planet features which looked amazing! A favorite trend on the runway, and one which I have noticed and other shows this fashion season, is the use of thick knits layered over long skirts with boots, which is a great look for Autumn/Winter and easy to create from the high street brands! Great use of warm autumn shades was seen with greens, burgundies and oranges on short dresses and coats and rich golds were given a watercolor blend effect on long coats and skirts. And of course no one can forget the appearance of THE Zoolander and Hansel showing off the blue steel look! A fantastic surprise to find and a hilarious way to announce their second film, their outfits were pretty cool to!

Saint Laurent – Paris Fashion Week

saint laurent 1

The Saint Laurent show brought 90’s ‘Heroine Chic’ back to life, displaying the epitome of grunge style on the runway and making this one of my favourite fashion shows this year so far. All the looks were just so cool and gave the feeling of rock chick beauty queens on the catwalk with their ballerina skirt dresses, distressed tights and chokers. Makeup was bold and brilliant with bright red matte lipstick, smudgy black eyeshadow and sharp cheekbones. There was use of punky inspiration with mesh tops and bras under skinny tailored suits, leather and sheer materials teamed together and heeled pointed boots.  Animal print, polka dot, monochrome and shimmered fabrics were used on A-line prom style dresses, mini skirts and fur coats worn with thigh high boots. Looks were sexy and cool with the collection playing on the rock vibe by adding a little vampire-esque style in the form of a cloak coat worn with thick eyeliner, chocker necklace and a dead straight bob…simply brilliant design! Cut out detail was a big trend on the catwalk and it was great to see Saint Laurent sticking with what they know and creating cool, current and rocking clothing. saint laurent 2
