Autumn/Winter Couture Dresses 2015

Dolce and Gabbana Couture

Autumn/Winter couture has been flawless this season with designers providing the runways with a fantastic array of styles and shades all with a real luxurious feel. Dolce and Gabbana’s Alta Moda showcase of dresses gave a fabulous display of tropical prints with full and bright skirts and jeweled bodices, and with extravagant head pieces of jewels and bouquets of flowers a theatrical look was created at the event. Some of my favourite dresses from AW15 couture are shown below and these examples show the real diversity in the styles each designer has created. The first dress (far left) comes from designer Alberta Ferretti who creates a soft and feminine look through the earthy green tones and pretty floral prints, however with added sex appeal in the form of a plunging neckline and a cross over back. The second dress from Ralph and Russo however gives a more effortless look of glamour and class with pinstriped sheer detail and a heavy caped overlay. Although the dress seems simple, this simplicity was certainly a winner for me and its snowy ice queen feel stunned on the runway. Valentino (always one of my favourite couture designers) created modern gothic looks with high necks, black netting and lace inserts. The dress below (centre) was intricate and cool with its sheer material and black polka dots, gold accessories and raised shoulders to create a noir inspired dress. The other end of the spectrum, and a dress which stood out for its blue candy floss style feathering, was the Versace couture gown. I love how the dress was like a new take on cinderellas ball gown, with a structured plunging bodice, cascading split skirt with blue feathered detail to create a fun and girly dress but which was still very chic. Finally no one can beat Elie Saab for dresses and one day I hope I can afford to buy one of his fabulous creations! Possible my favourite look so far is in the form of this glitzy gold long sleeved dress with glitter embellishment. The dress fits in all the right places with a cinched in belted waist and flared shoulders, this is a dress fit for a goddess. Couture aw15

The Valentino fashion show was a stunning concoction of historic fashion styles mixed with a modern twist of plunging necklines, sheer materials and lace fabrics. The show started with a fairytale-esque feel with intricate red and blue embroidery on short A-line dresses, with matching embroidered booties and crown braids, which created imagery of Hansel and Gretel. Dresses were gorgeous earthy tones of olives, creams, burgundies and yellows and dresses were structured with a medieval style bodice, creating curvaceous silhouettes along with floaty skirts in lightweight and sheer materials such as lace and chiffon. One of my favorite looks was the caped dress with a gold floral lacing which was worn over a straight cut pale blue skirt, which looked so elegant and intricate that it seemed simply perfection. Along with plunging necklines, there were also high necked ruffled tops and waistcoats and jackets worn over the dresses, which was a beautiful accessory to add a real chic and individual look to the already glamorous dresses. As one of my favorite designers, Valentino did not disappoint creating a showcase of innovative and carefully crafted couture gowns.
