The Max Mara fashion show was a collection of feminine elegance inspired by the 1950’s beauty Marilyn Monroe, set to a backdrop of swashing waves on the shore, creating a chilled and comfy walk along the beach vibe. The designs were filled with snuggly oversized knits over cashmere pencil skirts in understated tones of camel, greys and pinky browns. The 50’s theme was created through the use of retro patterns of black and white gingham, check and subtle animal print in heavy, long coats. One of the coolest looks on the runway was the use of quilted fabrics used for skirts, jumpers and dresses in metallic colours such blue steel, gold, silver and bronze. An amazing show highlighting classic chic trends for outerwear.
Kim Kardashian definitely has her own personal style and is commonly seen sporting the pencil skirt and crop top look. This has become a staple piece for Kim, with many trying to replicate the simple look which is perfect for showing off all your curves. To get the Kim K look is pretty simple, just find a nicely fitting pencil skirt in a colour of your choice, I have gone for the trending pastel pink from New Look. Then either find a co-coordinating coloured top or if you have chosen a black skirt, perhaps brighten the outfit up with a statement colour like red or purple. Then find a pair of killer heels in a neutral colour, get some fake tan on, paint your nails nude and if you’re going all out with wanting to look like her, buy some dip dye and bright up your hair with some ombre for the summer!
Pastel shades stood out at SS14 fashion shows as a key trend everyone should be incorporating into their outfits. Pale shades of pink , blue and purple were seen on the Burberry catwalk in gorgeous lace skirts, chiffon blouses and cosy coats. I decided to take this cute and girly look to create my own outfit inspired by this trend. I chose Topshop’s baby blue lace stitch crop top (another style which will be seen in shops this season!) and paired it with a Robert Rodriguez stretch leather pencil skirt in cream which complements the blue perfectly. To match with the skirt the cream sandals add some sophistication to the outfit and would look great with the pale pink Rochas leather satchel. Simply add a little bit of pastel accessories such as these bangles or some cute earrings and you will look like you’ve stepped off a spring and summer runway.
Found this awesome pair in Topshop a while back and thought it was such a quirky and cute outfit! The red polka dots are so eye catching but having a crop top matching the pencil skirt makes the items so much more versatile, as you could pair another top with the skirt or put the polka dot crop with some skinny jeans and heels. Perfect mix and match.
