Summer Event Style

prom 15

Summer balls and proms can be stressful to dress for, as occasion wear is sometimes a little tricky to get just right. You don’t want to go over the top with a full on ball gown fit for Cinderella, and you don’t want to look like your simply off to Tiger Tiger for a night out! Here I have found 5 different styles of summer ball dresses, inspired from runways of the past and fit for a range of girls fashion preferences. From retro dresses to glamorous jumpsuits, you don’t have to go for something boring and safe, instead choose something that you will feel and look amazing in, because it is not every day that you get the chance to dress up swanky, so have fun and take a look at these dresses for a little inspiration.

The Glamour Girl

Why not try something a little different this year and opt for an on trend and comfortable jumpsuit! This ‘Break hearts’ jumpsuit from Cameo at Topshop may be a little pricey at £135, but why not just treat yourself. This open back straight leg onesie will look amazing and will most definitely help you stand out from the crowd. To add a little colour, maybe opt for bright shoes and a clutch or wear simple accessories and some bright red lippy.

 The Girly GirlSoft-Spray-A-Line-Dress

If you’re a girl who loves every thing pink, bright and fun, maybe try something that will look both pretty but a little more subtly cool. This French Connection dress, which is £150 (great place to buy understated but fashionable evening dresses) is lovely and cute, with its A-line cut and soft pink and pastel spray paint effect you will feel pretty in pink but still mature and chic.

The Floral Girl

I absolutely love bardot cut tops and dresses because they are so flattering and I have even chosen a bardot style dress for myself this year. This off the shoulder ASOS midi bodcon dress is fab and is great if your wanting a sexy and summery look. The gorgeous shades of the dress is easy to colour co-ordinate with accessories as you could go for cream, pink or even a lilac shade of shoes and purse. At only £38 this outfit is a steal and would turn some heads at your summer event this year.

 The Retro Girl 18D35QWHT_2_large

You can never go wrong with classic styles like this dress because they always look so cool and on trend and the simplicity of them is what creates such a strong look. This beautiful White dobby lace midi dress by Miss Selfridge is great for any retro enthusiasts as its high paneled neck and sheer overlay looks clean cut and very 1950’s. I love the detail of the underlay and think it is an absolute bargain at only £49, grab it now with you’re student discounts!

The Boho Girl

If you aren’t into the whole girly dress up style then maybe opt for something a little more earthy and downplayed with this absolutely gorgeous maxi dress from ASOS. This boho bargain is £90 and includes fabulous lace inserts and floral embroidery to create a really pretty and natural look. This would look great with some wedges or even flats if you would rather a little more comfort, and to be festival ready as well (because who wants to buy a dress and only wear it once!) include a simple head chain and some loose curls to the style.

Summer Suede

summer suede

Suede is a definite hit this summer and a fab trend which adds a new fabric and texture to an outfit. Suede was seen all over the SS15 runways with block colours and patchworks being found on dresses, skirts and jackets and it is a great trend to mix with fringing to create a real boho look (As seen on Olivia Palermo, above). I love the use of bright suede as its a little more quirky and fab as a staple piece to an outfit which will draw some attention and really show off your style. Below I have found some bargain suede pieces that are affordable and funky to wear this summer and into the winter with a pair of tights!

image3xxl ASOS Mini Skirt in Suede £50.00 – A little pricey but this soft touch suede will offer comfort and a fun orangey colour to your outfit. This mini skirt would look brill with a pair of converses and a simple logo tee, nothing too flashy just simple and cool.

image1xxl (2) ASOS Skater Dress in Colour Block £75.00 – This is a gorgeous dress simply because of its fun and girly fit and the fab pink shades to highlight your summer tan! This dress is perfect for casual drinks on holiday and a fab way to wear the trend.

d3111137_emily_30.01.15_aj_1677 Missguided Suede Tassel Long Sleeve Plunge Bodycon Dress £35.00 – This absolute bargain comes from Missguided and uses the fringing and suede trend together to create a dress for a nightout which will beat all your friends looks! A sleek and sexy fit of the bodycon dress, paired with the tassel sleeves is a great look and I absolutely love the colour (As does Elle magazine!) and it really screams Coachella chic.

27A11HBLE_2_large  Topshop Suedette Pleated Midi Skirt £48.00 – 70’s style is a must this season and this suedette skirt in a baby blue looks amazing with this gypsy style white off the shoulder top. This is a real pretty look and would be brilliant on holiday for a look you can dress up or down, simply throw on a loose fitting top and sandals for a stroll along the beach or a pair of 70’s platforms and a bardot crop top for a night on the town.

Blake Lively style

Blake Lively style
After announcing today that her and husband, Ryan Reynolds, are expecting their first child, I thought why not look at Hollywoods latest yummy mummys style! With her girl next door looks, Blake Lively always stuns in sexy and feminine outfits that make her stand out. I wanted to create an outfit which took inspirations from Blakes young and fun style. The lovely Chi Chi London lace cap dress is a great piece which looks stunning paired with gold chunky earrings and bangles, seen on Blake at past events. I have decided to add the studded Zara heels to add some edge to the outfit and they are similar to the Christian Louboutin heels she wore in New York with her gorgeous Blue Gucci pre-fall coat. Finally a little matching white clutch will look amazing for any end of summer event.

Fun in Floral

Fun in Floral
Florals are a definite must for spring/summer style and they are always great ways to cheer up your wardrobe. Personally I don’t seem to suit bright colours and so I tend to mix in colours with darker shades. I have matched the Topshop lace floral runner shorts with a simple long sleeve black crop top and some chunky platform sandals, which can be seen in all the top highstreet shops! I then found some cool floral round clubmaster sunglasses and a gold chain necklace from urban outfitters, which could be paired with either outfit option. The second outfit is another simple creation, with a cute and girly floral print skirt with a For Now grey crop top and chunky heeled boots, for a grungy but girly feel to it. Finally I found this awesome highwaisted bikini set in Topshop which will be an amazing staple piece for on the beach!

Summer Sadness

Already I’m missing the summer, the colder days are moving in and no longer can I get away with wearing my favourite Levi shorts without some black tights underneath. It’s time now to wrap up warm and dust off winter coats, no more crop tops through the day and a light shirt in case it gets chilly. Warm scarves, skinny jeans and boots are now back for autumn.

Perks of Playsuits

Perks of Playsuits
Playsuits are so brilliant for summer, they can be dressed up and dressed down and the variety of colors, shapes, designs and patterns you can get help you make the trend adaptable. The reverse Paulina playsuit is more of a formal look, however it’d look so brill at any summer cocktail party or simply for an evening drink. The gorgeous blends of colours in the flowers contrast perfectly to the peachy colour of the playsuit. I have chosen to use a vibrant colour of yellow to brighten the outfit further and matched both the handbag and shoes so there is not a huge clash of garishness (if that’s a word!). The pretty and simple wrap ring is cute but can be replaced with any gold jewelry of your choice. The second outfit is more casual and could be seen at any festival, the festival of my choice being Bestival! The white H&M playsuit is so simple that it doesn’t look over the top but also isn’t dull. I wanted to put some black hightop Nike’s with the outfit to make it more cool, casual and comfy for jumping around to live bands and the black leather backpack is a brilliant match with the shoes and also very sensible for keeping your stuff in! 🙂

Festival Fun

Festival Fun
This is a chilled-out outfit which would be perfect for a hot day at any festival. The tailored shorts are girly and fun and look amazing on a sunny day at any festival. Put a simple vest top or a cute crop with the shorts, whatever you fancy as these shorts could be matched with any number of tops. Then throw on some cute cowboy boots, which are brill for festivals as they are comfortable and look awesome with cute shorts (denim shorts look brill as well!), and a pair of must-have Ray Bans! Finally throw on the fedora (a recurring trend at any festival) to keep the sun off and dance  the weekend away with these Frends headphones 🙂
